Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Is the RoofPouch 100% waterproof?
A. There are several models of the RoofPouch, each with its own characteristics which determine its weather resistance. All RoofPouches are made of a single piece of material (unitary construction), which also reduces the potential for moisture penetration. All models use a water-repellant-treated zipper and have a rain flap over the zipper. However, none of the RoofPouches are 100% waterproof, and we don't claim them to be because they have a zipper in them. Please refer to the following pertaining to each model. While we have gone to great lengths to make sure all models of our RoofPouch are as weather resistant as possible, each of them still has a zipper around both sides and the back (for easy access). Whether or not the zipper flap stays down depends to a large extent on how it is packed. Packing any model full will help keep the zipper flap down and the rain out. In addition, packing it full eliminates potentially damaging flapping, and has the added benefit of making it more aerodynamic. So, since we can't be there to pack each RoofPouch, we can not guarantee it to be 100% waterproof.
- HURRICANE ROOFPOUCH: This is our top of the line, toughest, most weather resistant model, with all seams welded instead of sewn. The straps are also welded on, as is the zipper. There are NO needle penetrations in the Hurricane (which would cause wicking into the RoofPouch).
- ZOOM: This is our most economical roof pouch and is constructed of a 600D vinyl backed polyester. The Zoom is a sewn RoofPouch and therefore does have needle holes at all seams and anywhere else there is stitching. This RoofPouch is not waterproof, but will offer some protection against the elements.
Q. Will the RoofPouch scratch my car?
A. When the RoofPouch is used with a roof rack, usually no additional protection is needed because there are nearly always ribs running down the length of the roof which keep the RoofPouch up off the painted surface. If the intent is to put the RoofPouch directly on a painted surface, we highly recommend use of the optional Kanga RoofPad, a non-slip PVC/polyester mesh that will protect against potential abrasion caused by the combination of road vibration and dust.Q. How does the RoofPouch attach to a vehicle?
A. Two ways: For vehicles WITH roof racks, the front and rear straps of the RoofPouch will loop around the bars on the rack. The four unused side straps with hooks may then be detached so they don't flap in the wind. For sedans and other vehicles WITHOUT a rack, the RoofPouch comes with our patented "in-door hook" which will attach to the piping or weather stripping in the door jambs of many, but not all vehicles. When used without a roof rack, the four unneeded front and rear straps may be detached.Q. Will the RoofPouch fit on my vehicle?
A. Please refer to our Fit List to find the make and model of your car.
